Emphasis on Scholarship: We are number one!
Fall term Kappa Alpha Theta was ranked first for GPA amongst all Oregon State sororities and fraternities.
Our sorority is able to maintain a high standard of excellence through a strong scholarship program, good advising, and selection of members who have a strong academic background. Our scholarship program has a variety of aspects that help encourage and reward members for their hard work. At the end of every term we have a scholarship dinner to acknowledge and recognize those who have achieved academic success. Members also have the opportunity to invite professors over to say thank you for the term. Awards are given to members who receive: GPAs from 3.0-3.49, 3.5-3.99, 4.0, highest GPA in each academic class, highest class GPA, and most improved GPA.
We also feel that it is very important for every member to have a positive and academic environment to study in. We are the only chapter in the Greek community with a study attic. This room in our house is an area specifically designed for 24 hour quiet study time. This room provides DSL and wireless internet service for everyone, a personal desk area, and many other resources that may aid in studying. We were fortunate enough to have our study attic remolded for us last summer, which has further improved the quality and importance of this great area.
Our scholarship program also implements activities that are done weekly to encourage and reward members for working on their academics. Every week a No Skippy prize is given out randomly at chapter to a member who has attended all her classes for that week. This works as a tool to encourage and remind girls the importance of class attendance and its relationship to academic success. Scholar of the Week is another incentive to encourage girls to study their hardest to prepare for school.
Along with our weekly programs and events, we also have resources at our house to help with scholarship. In the past year, we have implemented a class/teacher evaluation file. This gives members a chance to keep a record of classes they would recommend to others, what the workload consists of, and any other comments they feel would be beneficial for someone interested in taking the class. Another resource our chapter has is our "What's Your Major?" Wall. Every member's name and photo is posted under their major of study, this allows all members to have a resource in their area of study.
Aside from Oregon State academic success, our house also encourages members to get involved outside of the classroom. We encourage members to study abroad and learn about different cultures and the world around us. Over the last year, we have had many members further their education by studying abroad. The members who have studied abroad can provide helpful information to future members thinking about studying abroad and can share with the chapter what they have learned.
